How to Write Your Lisbon Story Course

Rumours say that novels set in Lisbon are trending. Since the city is practically turning into a literary character of its own, we figured it was time to host a course on how to actually do it right.

Over five weeks, Portuguese novelist Alex Couto is going to teach us how to write the city. And by that, we don't mean romanticizing the light or the viewpoints. We mean turning real, contemporary Lisbon (the gentrification, the clash between older locals and the new nomad crowd, the housing pressure) into compelling fiction and life writing.
Alex is going to guide a small group through the actual mechanics of craft: building a personal vocabulary of the place, testing out different voices, mapping the city and doing scene work.

Across five evening sessions, he'll do craft lessons, occasional flaneuring and rigorous peer workshopping. If you are serious about developing a writing habit and want to use the city around you as vour source material, this is the room you want to be in.
