Join acclaimed poet and author Dr Ashley Hickson-Lovence for a dynamic 90-minute masterclass designed to energise your writing and push your prose in new directions. Blending the power of poetry with the craft of storytelling, this collaborative session explores how techniques such as repetition, alliteration and sibilance can bring rhythm, texture and intensity to your work. Through engaging examples and practical exercises, you’ll discover how to write with greater honesty, confidence and flair. This is a space to take risks on the page, to be bold in voice and intent, and to develop the tools needed to hook your reader from the very first line and keep them reading.

Ashley Hickson-Lovence is the author of the acclaimed novels The 392, Your Show and Wild East. His poetry collection Why I Am Not a Bus Driver has been shortlisted for the Jhalak Poetry Prize this year and includes the poem “Munster Road,” highly commended for Best Single Poem at the Forward Prize. He holds a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of East Anglia and was nominated for the Black Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to Literature in 2023. His latest novel, About To Fall Apart, was published by Faber in April.
